What do you mean by socialism?

Asked this on Facebook. Got a response of, "it's the same as Communism." Looking more into their responses, their main objection seems to be the individual mandate of Obamacare along with the fear that Democrats could turn the USA into Venezuela. So, that's not really Communism. Any other thoughts?

Everyone who is able chips in 'some amount' whether they need the benefit that will be provided at any given time or not, to help those that do, trusting that in the future if you came to be in need, your neighbours will have done the same for you.

Socialism is state-defined, and state-enforced love.

Socialists think they need (deserve) to be caretakers of the inferior.

My understanding of the difference is that Socialism coexists with Capitalism (it attempts to emulate Communism on top of the Capitalist system) while Communism replaces Capitalism (the government directly dictates resource allocation via vouchers etc). With Socialism, the market still plays the primary role and the government manipulates allocation indirectly, through things like taxation, credits, and welfare.

Socialism is when you have two cows, the governement take one cow and give it to your neighbour.
Furthermore I think Carthage should be destroyed and Dryads brought back to the game

Your neighbour, however, hasn't shown he has any knowledge on the care of livestock. Actually since he's communist he probably has no concept of production in general. All wealth was stolen from the poor after all.

So, after your neighbour slaughters that cow rather than eating milk and cheese, the government comes back and butchers your cow, taking half the meat to your neighbour.

Then the meat runs out, and there are no more cows.

    Then you both starve.

From my cold dead hands, friends.

Socialism - the belief that everyone is or shall be forced to be a dramatic extrovert.

Capitalism - the belief that the over competitive uncle is right in running over 5 year olds in football.
