Deep chaining someone and then chain masacring them while they are overpop is just stupid.
BTW this is one of the biggest mistakes low-tier kingdoms make... acres don't matter, resources matter. Landchaining is mostly a way to destroy resources, with the temporary bonus of worsening attacker range on the provinces they'd want to hit.

Likewise it doesn't matter now if massacres are followed immediately with trads, in the situation described. The point of the massacre is to remove tpa/wpa - at that point, acres swap back and forth so fast that it doesn't matter what acreage they are done at, so long as the target province lacks stable defense.

Sometimes the only opening where a target is at zero defense will be when they are also overpopping. This is often the case for races with effective turtle units, who will be damn sure to keep a useful defense level at home post-chain. Doing massacre then can be worth it, sacrificing overpop for wpa damage. Otherwise it means dropped attackers are going to have to send out significant offense to massacre targets, which has a lot of bad implications if it happens too early in war.
