Actually I have static ip.. :) provided by my isp hence I got deleted with my 3 accounts 1st age I played. Since I'm disabled I have lots of time to play and have one account on both servers. To be honest I have no idea how proxies work never bothered to find out just have an idea that it's possible to escape getting caught having several accounts.

GOOD SUGGESTION DUDE, but a better one would be to limit ip ranges on accounts to the actual nationality selected when you sign up. If these does not match the account is red flagged and looked at manually.

Yeah that could be one solution. How about when you create an account and you have to type what country you're playing from eg USA and then suddenly the account is traded to one in Japan?

    2)
I bet the thread starter at a time has at one point or another had to change his email address.

GOOD SUGGESTION DUDE, but a better one would be to log all emails that have been used in utopia and on what account. If an email has previously been used on an account and that account was alive while the current one was delete them both. You just proved they either traded or are multis. Sure some people will just create new mails for new accounts, but i know for a fact most people are dumb and lazy.

True once I had to change my e-mail adress because I was new to the internet and used my main e-mail for everything not very smart but I was warned by my more experienced friend so I had to create on for internet gaming as well to keep my main safe.

I agree with you again people are maybe not dumb but certaintly lazy and most people don't bother to create new e-mail over and over again so a good suggestion from you that they keep a track of which e-mails that has been active and if the e-mail was infact involved in cheating no more account could be created on it.

    3)
GOOD SUGGESTION DUDE, but we already have a server like this why would we want another? If people liked that game play the genesis server would be more popular than the regular one.

I know we got genesis but it's not what I really want either it was just a what I believe would be the most likely thing OMAC would do if anything at all. I would not vote for this myself but as a last resort maybe.

    4)
GOOD SUGGESTION DUDE, but why would allowing active players to play together make crosslogging more popular? Crosslogging is typically done when the activity levels between players in a kingdom has huge disparity.

Making crosslogging more popular is ok with me I don't care really if people cross log it's really I encourage people to more active one way or another.
What I want is to be able to play with my real life friends which would have been cool. Yeah we play other online games like Call of Duty, and such and we get to play together which is cool in utopia however there is no such option which is a pity.

In the end I just want to have some form of possiblity to recruit new players.

Static IP won't work because that would make it so the only place you can log in is at home.. or wherever you created your account. You won't be able to log in if you travel, log in at work, or log in anywhere else when you're not at home...

The 1-email-only policy isn't a bad suggestion... but it wouldn't stop scripters because they would have their information saved... and it would actually hurt the people who forgot what they created their account with. I have played off and on again many times and I never use my real info to create the account.

About genesis... in my experiences... it's full of kingdoms of multi's... myself admittedly being one about 4 years ago :S ... the opponents of genesis are actually fairly difficult to play against. I just totally avoid genesis now

I would like to see utopia with less multi's and stuff nowadays. But I think trying to fix the holes would just create newer problems.

I would like to see the game spiced up first to attract more players before we try to take some away

i really doubt you have a static ip unless you actually payed for it. While your ip may not change more often than once a month month or twice a year that is not a static ip. A static ip means you have bought the ip address (or leased it from your isp). While it is possible there might be some isps that give you a static ip for free (which really is only needed if you are hosting a website or server) most isps will assign you one of their ip addresses for a time period. When you (or your router) asks for an ip from the isp the dhcp server will lease you an ip for a time (for example a month) when that time is up they will assign you a new one. This may by chance be the same ip as last time, but chances are it will be a similar one but with the last two sequences changing slightly.

The reason isps don't give you an ip is to save money. If they assign you an static ip that means they can't use that ip for anyone else when you are offline. It also means when you close your subscription it requires more work to actually clean you out of their systems.

In conclusion i hate people that agree with you when you insult them.

ok, clearly you have no idea

    static ip's, bad idea!
if my net disconnects at home, and i get a new IP, should i get deleted?

my work and uni both go through proxies, a proxy can be a very useful thing, just cause some people use it to cheat does not mean its a bad thing
also, i log in from my iphone to attack (when i need to) so that means i log in from 4 different IP's, why should i be deleted for that?

the ability to cache pages and reduce the amount of bandwidth is very useful for a proxy, it can mean that all 1500 or so people at work can view the local news website, yet we only have to access it once through our internet connection!

does that mean i cheat when i log in at work?
    no!

alot of kd's trade, hell, i was in a bottom 100 ghetto, and as 4 ages as monarch, i know of at least 10 traded provs!

a re-shuffle every age would suck, the main reason i play gen is cause it gives me the chance to meet random people and create networking opportunities, am currently in a kd with 3 other top 20 wol kd players, none of us are traded

please learn about the mechanics of the game before posting silly ideas to fix it

Some kingdoms may also make use of outside communications sources such as instant messengers or other message boards to coordinate their game activities. We cannot guarantee the security of these methods of communications - it is up to you as to whether you feel comfortable using those methods. Kingdoms are not allowed to require any individual to use these forms of communication. If a kingdom member is demanding you do this, please let us know through the Report Message option or Cheaters Link at the top of this page.

    There done,
    First you say.
I only wish to communicate via the in-game forums.
Then your safe until they raze you.
Just don't let them catch you off guard when you don't use pimp or angel but :P

Static ip wont work as meny with the old dial up conection dont have static ips.
A cookie that you must keep mite work,so far as people wanting to login from work or elsewhere who cares, get back to work and play from home.
I think maby the new webmasters are working on securty,we will know more latter.
All of the multys, traders,x logers and such is what kills the game, and runs people off.

I'm not sure but as for static ip adress but when I do the ip test thingy it shows the same ip adress as I've always have had.. until recently ofcourse I changed the isp provider due to increase in price and poor service with the old.
This was only to get people think around things I don't know what should be done or even could be done just wanted to hear if people had any good ideas.
Yeah to those who say I don't have a clue how the ip stuff works mostly because I didn't bother to investigate how it works but since I understand that those who get deleted logged in from same ilocation ip is the logic thing to think about, don't know if they delete for other reasons.

To those who think this topic is stupid and have nothing better than to troll just leave it alone guys. Either you post constructive ideas to solve things or let it be.. writing things like this is stupid blah blah blah is not even and argument for anything.. just a flame.

I urge people to think constructive around this I'm sure there is a way to solve this and so far the e-mail idea seems to be the best one.

how is reshuffling wol at the end of the age going to help anything, it will only encourage more people to leave...

And alot of people (probably most) will log in from more than one place, so that idea does not make any sense either, these suggestions would just kill the game altogether

As I stated as possible danger it might make more people leave and hence my suggestion if you read you could make it possible for kd's to recruit or accept friends to join your own kd to stimulate player base and growth as many already pointed out cheating will always be there and cannot be eliminated.
Those who wants to trade or x-log do and seems not possible to stop it either. :/

I log in from work, from my home and, sometimes when my net gives trouble, from the library. And I don't cheat. I know plenty of people who use their mobiles to log in. And none of them cheat. It'd be really rubbish if all of us got deleted. This will actually lose OMAC more players.

Hope you'll enjoy playing in a 5-player Utopia.

    2. I change my e-mail frequently cos of various spam mails, or cos of changing internet provider. Am I a cheater?

    3. I play this game not cos of it itself, I play it cos of people in there.. I never played whole gen age cos I got bored and just deleted acc..

    4. Don't think that will affect multies/x-log too much..

funnylumpy, you raise legitimate issues. Nubs being forced out when landing in a top kingdom is a legitimate concern which drives players away. You're not offering realistic solutions, for reasons already stated. Insisting that anyone should be allowed to play anywhere they random into is not realistic. And trying to catch cheaters will either only target those who cheat poorly or will target 10-15% of the players.

If your concern is that new players shouldn't get a bad experience upon joining the game, I suggest the following:
    1) Let kingdoms choose to block random players from joining their kingdom
    2) Let kingdoms recruit players directly somehow, rather than relying solely on random players
    3) Let kingdoms advertise that they're recruiting and will take in unknown players, listing them automatically on a recruitment forum and allowing them to screen players interested in joining
    For Master of Magic fans:

Catwalk I think it would be good if this thread could remain OT about deterring cheaters, rather than the invite/recruitment discussion of the other, very long thread.
