I didn't ask about gnomes, who can be owned unless they are higher nw than KD, I want the ups and downs of human vs de rogue........

Dark elf has uselessly low defense, due to using elites for defense, as opposed to offense. During war, dark elf has zero economical bonuses.
Human gets an offensive elite, strength six DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST, fat bonus to science, fat bonus to income, and only suffers a minor auto-fail penalty on self-spells, and a reduction in WPA.
With the loss of +30% WPA for dark elf, I no longer consider the static defense worth it.
Catwalk's crusade for legalized cheating was a stunning success, with ghettos and low-tiered teams everywhere losing their wells of knowledge to better kingdoms in the process.
Step one: replace everything that works.
Step two: blame the predictable epic fail on outside forces.
Step three: keep the community informed that no progress has been made since the last update.
Step four: thank you for your patience.
see,. that's good feedback! Thank you VT2. less arguing and spam and more helpful info. A lot of people rip on Vt2 who haven't been so helpful with strat stuff, yet have *****ed on every other forum about crap...thanks vt2
lmao.. so i might thought reconsidering DE/Rouge ?
Don't forget that there are many people taking of playing a/M or A/m that reduction of WPA for the human could be almost as significant as the dwarf reduction in TPA. Makes them easy targets for Meteor Swarms, Greed, Pitfall, Nightmares, Fools Gold ect.
Humans can counteract that with science however there are only so many places science can go......
dark elf saves space with no runes needed.
~5% maybe more from towers?
DE can also be A/T and a Very crappy mage. spells like storm/greed can be spammed for free as a DE. Dont exactly need 4-5 wpa 1.5-2 can get though most attackers.
humans usually dont have that flexibility
Meteors have a nasty habit of getting on you regardless... the rest - I was a Human/Merchant A/T last age easily found places for science to go. What really hurt and was annoying was the -mana penalty. Now that's gone... I never had a harder than usual time with magic. Against it I should say. I wasn't "meteored" more or anything. And even so I feared any Thief op far more. FB'd? I'll kidnapp them back.
A thievery penalty is far more significant imo than magic. Anyways I like Human A/T vs. DE. Rogue I guess but even Merch/Sage isn't too bad. Of course A/t should say... I like to have a military (laughs at DE's) keep my land and have an econ during war.
I don't fear magic.
2 raw WPA, and most 'A/M's' out there couldn't even touch me when I had magic shield on.
Magic is overrated.

True, magic can be easily countered...with Wizard pump during non warring times.....
its thievery I fear T_____T
how about DE/Sage? more thief sci, less stealth.
Man, I really don't think that DE is good for hybrids anymore.
Before they were decent A/Ms because of the magic effectiveness bonus, but if you are thinking that you can keep up all the elite defense, all the off specs, and all the thieves you are going to need without a thief effectiveness bonus throughout a war, it is not going to happen. Maybe with sweet sci bonuses, but by then you might as well be a gnome.
Basically, DEs are going to be best used as T/M whores this age. Stack up suitable defense of elites, then go to town with thieves and wizards. If you start trying to attack with that static defense, you are going to get hurt.
Bah, gnome/sage all the way.
pump housing/theivery/channeling and your off to the races:)
I don't fear magic either - NS is far more deadly. The space savings with DE rogue is very enticing. And, like Toast said, you can use extra mana to help throw out some spells for free. That being said, VT2 is correct, the static def could be a problem in any war over 72 hrs., and human - not so much.
But, TOG and invisibility, maybe with a strat that includes 5-8 % banks for TOG could win out over human sci until near the end of the age.
I guess the ultimate question is Cheech's good point: can you win the war before you can't retrain enough army and thieves with growth, etc......
"can you win the war before you can't retrain enough army and thieves with growth, etc......"
and thats why I dont like gnomes, that no hospitals sucks so bad.
