watch towers are situational and should be used as such, but odds are if your undead/orc/dwarf your going to be running 10% watch towers most every war. If the KD you are going to war with is running 23 orcs and 2 halfers, it is not worth the investment to run watchtowers kingdom wide... But perhaps if your the biggest province in your kingdom and hope to be unbreakable / expect to be the target of all ops they might be worth while.
Still i don't run them oow, and in war I would only use situationally, swapping 10% land shouldn't take too long.

Question: Realest, please predict in very fine detail what all the occurances and outcomes will be of this Dreams vs Rage battle of the titans.
Max gain strategy works fine, until you meet max farm strategy which I'm sure Proteus will be employing.

when too overgrown ghettos collide there is no telling who will win. But odds are rage is going to win. I mean proteus is unstoppable.

Realest: Believe it or not, there was a time in where Absalom did not rule the server. Until the point I quit around age 13, they had still yet to win an age, had some failed alliance war action, and even disbanded for a time being.
I come back, after a layoff and they rule the server, and no one has been able to defeat them in grander action. I can't quite figure it out because I've never seen abs win an age when I wasn't in abs myself so I don't have perspective on actually not being in abs and making sure they don't win (it has always come naturally to me), but why have all the seemingly many people who dislike them failed?

The best kingdom that opposes abs is Sleepy, and Sleepy doesnt care about winning land/nw. Over the years, a lot of other kingdoms try and fail because, bluntly put, they suck. Around the late 20s -> early 30s, a lot of kds surfaced out of seemingly nowhere, basically ran by proxies. It shouldnt take much explanation why those kingdoms dont really stack up in the long run. As well, Brute Force disbands sometime around then, so that's another competent kd up there in the ranks that disappeared (Seasons comes out towards the late 30s and kinda takes their slot in the rankings). In short, lack of sufficient competent opposition kind of allowed Absalom to establish a comfortable dominance on the server. When the only one who tries to stop you was Cheese (his history of failure is open information), then you know it can't be that bad of an age for you.
For all of abs deficiencies and nubness, they at least employ 25 players per kd and they have a semblance of logic, so during the xlog era, it was relatively cakewalk for them. They had their moral pillar in EQ (Carsten/Trysil) who did a good job ensuring the integrity of things unlike present day Sanctuary, so it was easy to take their side vs the xlogging scum. Hell, at one point I liked absalom myself. For example, Dorje and I were from the same genesis kingdom that got us recruited into the big leagues from the ghettos, him to Sanctuary and me to heretics.
Basically at this point, not enough people care about the game anymore. Taking down the current incarnation of abs is merely a symbolic finish, since theyre largely a shell of their "dominant" self. You can argue they got bored of winning, and probably stolen away by better games and real life and what not. It'd be nice to smack them up nonetheless, but it wouldnt be the same. Besides, their dominance is exaggerated when you check charts. They had a solid reign, but a lot of the myths and legends in whining about their lameness are spread by the same losers who would lose in any era, not just the past one.
What's your take on friends in ghettos helping their friends in larger kingdoms?
Since you brought up both the subject of kingdoms coming up out of no where and alluded to your personal strife with sanctuary (of which I have a newfound appreciation for as of late given our history) It still goes without saying that whenever a kingdom comes out of no where to have 25 players, like Sonata did, that even truly impartial observers (of which I consider myself) would be suspicious of how "legit" they were.
Now its clear from both your kingdoms widely known member base and following, that its possible that there are players out there who are willing to play legit and help you at the same time (I had quite the following of these types of players in my heyday) but at the same time subsequent incidents with the Versace/Secrets-rage debacle make one wonder if your friends were truly friends or just multis.
I personally saw Sanctuary's news so its not as if I'm unaware of the amount of seemingly random provinces that were hindering their growth compared to yours in the age where the bad blood between you started and their subsequent EoA shenanigans. Without getting into the merits of that, what is your take on the role of friends of superkingdoms interfering in the affairs of those kingdoms larger than them with a fairly clear agenda of doing nothing more than helping their superkingdom friends.
We had a player in pulse leave us this age because he was too busy yet he was able to keep a top 5 province for a majority of the age (which just shows the sad state of the game today) and I personally was hesitant to ask him to assist in our various conflicts, although he certainly could have and was in fact asking us what he could do to help us at various points in the age.
What is considered kosher, in this regard?
We're not that small, we're top 40 right now after only a month and a bit of serious play, and if we tried, top 10 would be easy if you see who's in my kd. So are you asking -me- or are you asking in general?
If you're asking if I know people to help me with favours, the answer is simply, yea, I know a lot. I didn't build the most active kd on the server without filtering through a fair amount of players, so even those I booted, some of em I kept good relations with for this exact reason.
If you want to argue fair, whats the difference between sending Relax at Sanc, compared to sending Edge or Angels of Absalom at Heretics?
Lastly, what do you mean by "helping friends". There are two stances on this. One, merely preventing harm towards them (so an ingame CF) and actively advancing the welfare of them (doing their bidding).

Oh another thing, these "mysterious" randoms and such that apparently slow down all absalom kingdoms is a crock of ****. I've observed their papers just as well (you tend to do that age start to keep an eye on people around you in size). The majority of these "hindering" attacks are merely the result of bad randoming. The hits by shells and what not, they happen to everyone, myself included.
Sanctuary is a good whore kd, but my kingdoms are better. I've literally booted people on the spot for hitting provs that could retal back (octo is my only exception cuz i lub him). Sanctuary hits all kinds of random ****, as long as its breakable. So at some point, you just have to stop appealing to phantom explanations as to why some kingdoms perform worse than others. Dorje has led Sanctuary since Age 34~, and he only has 1 crown to his name in this watered down era. It's not a coincidence.
Hi Realest,
I'm a noob, nub (all of the above) - fairly new to the game. Have always been wondering about TDs vs. WTs in an A/T build, hovering around 2.0 - 2.5 raw tpa.
While WTs prevents ops, wouldnt a higher mod tpa with TDs do the same and be more efficient at ops?
If both kd's are max gaining and are equal in terms of strategy and activity, what next? And how do you counter 93% homes dwarf pre wave conversion strategy kd waving you(excludes running to fw's and running away from them).

When should massacres be used in war?
