If you're going to get into serious diplo and you're not very well known and have no kind of reputation surrounding you, that's just another obstacle, but that doesn't mean you can't negotiate. Any monarch that says "Nah, don't know him, so I'm not diplo'ing" is doing a terrible diplo job.

    Palem,

No one said they don't try. I said its EASIER if you have connections.

    this last bit with legacy.

I had to do diplomacy with tox and with maximouse. I LIKE and KNOW both of them. I HATED IT.

I could talk to both of them for hours just shooting the breeze in IRC and have a fine time. But doing diplomacy with them was simply miserable. I hated every moment of my diplomacy negotiations with them. Now that its done and I am back to just chatting I am so much happier.

Yet you think Elit has an easy time doing diplo?

Life is hard. That's something every irl nub should learn at some point. Stop *****ing about it

    There's your mistake.
When you don't take **** seriously, you won't get as far as people that are taking this **** seriously.

    This.

You can argue against cows etc, but really the issue that keeps people from wanting to go to the top is the amount of hours/work that goes in behind the scenes on the CF front. If you take out cows, the top will still want to CF each other so they can extract as much acres as possible from the bottom or build science levels as unhindered as possible.

Just my two cents.... I've been playing for the past year now, coming from 5+ years away and thrown into monarching because I was pretty good at getting everyone to listen. I tried to take the kingdom from mediocre warring to a whoring level last age with the shire set up and this age running the universe until I just recently gave up leading due to rl. For the most part, we've made middle / lower top 10 most of the two ages. Its not easy being a new kingdom dealing with the established kingdoms. You start out and you get smacked a few times for not understanding terms or what's fair or miscommunicating, but each and every kingdom, after engagement, are very reliable, friendly, and more than willing to teach the ropes. There are a boatload of issues new kingdoms have to deal with before becoming competitive. Finding active members who won't rage quit for losing a couple hundred acres, learning dozens of strategies for taking down different configurations, and learning to keep morale up are all big challenges. But the game is enjoyable /frustrating / but the reward of competiting at a high level successfully beats all :) don't have to be number 1 to have a good time.

I agree that you don't have to be #1 to have a good time. but most people comming to a game for the first time want to believe they may have a chance of competing. I think that the frustration part tends to get people to want to quit without giving the game a chance. A large part of that are the large provinces that you can't do anything about. So when a large province hits you, you want to do SOMETHING back to them and you can't. cows are an extreme example of this. If you are new and you finally cvross1K acres only to get hit for 95 acres by a 1600 acre province you want to do SOMETHING back to them. The game does not allow you to.

OK Palem. Educate me. A 1600 acre province with 50 dpa and 65 opa does a 95 acre grab on the nub who is now shoved far outside of NW range and likely has only 65 opa and 50 dpa because they are new. There are no relations between the kingdoms. He manages to get an som and sees the 1600 acre province has 80K dp at home. he can muster 72K OP tops. He wants to do SOMETHING back.......... GO!

lets see, he can't break...... unless he is a warrior he can't CQ....... he can cast drought? no no I got it! Greed! that will teach that guy! OH BURN!
