why did you and nesta part ways originally anyways? decided to chill after the crown age?

The representation made to me by CJ was that the impending RL changes made running in crown contention too stressful. So the solution was to ghetto it. I told him it was a crock and he was too obsessive to not lead and do diplo and all that stuff anyway, but people need to learn the hard way. Shortly after the age started, we all discovered that CJ had randomed into the KD next to us. Lots of LOL conversations ensued and of course CJ gave some help and sold out at least some of his new KD mates to us. Then when people did crappy stuff to us, like emeriti not honoring the spirit of the CF negotiations that we had thought were completed, CJ allowed some gold stealing and so on to even out the prep time. All in all it was a relatively cooperative and nice thing except around mid age cj had to start gloating about how important he was to pyro etc etc.

No one debated that cj was integral to the success of pyro in the past (at least no one with a brain), but he started off with his forum signature about how much we suck without him etc. His gloating comments kept increasing through the age and were most unwelcome. I gather that eventually nesta got sick of hearing it from CJ and some of the other people who had "retired" and so decided that pyro would wave CJ's kd the last week of the age. No one was in a position for crowning or anything so it really did not matter. CJ took this as some grand betrayal and had to start emo threads in the forums over it and started flaming and bashing pyro. His stated intent to me was to disband/destroy pyro. I don't know why, but it is what it is.

This whole immature sandbox fight has spilled over into this age where from the start CJ attempted to recruit people away from pyro and continued his attacks and even abused an IRC loophole that nesta was unaware of/ignorant of to gain access to the pyro private channel and steal intel and location data by querying our bot. CJ justified this because of the prior "betrayal of trust" and so on and so forth because pyro waved him at the end of the age when nothing mattered.

That is what I saw at least. I am sure others have a version where we are the devil and eat small children, but that is what I saw.

I played 2 months or so of an age after my law school term started last year (I guess it was from mid-august to end of september?) and I had to quit after that, mostly because the diplo was getting to be too much.

Granted that age was particularly miserable diplo-wise for me what with the AMA double header. And then having to run (from CR mostly, but Pyro [idk if you played there at the time?] also wanted to fight and were unwilling to take land for a CF) to war with sleepy/coss (a situation which was made a lot less enjoyable due to a terrible cow performance by me - complete farmout). Boss being a bit crazy didn't help.

Anyways, my general point is that I probably would have been able to handle all that and keep playing the next age but my more intense RL situation meant I had to take some uto time off for my health - I didn't even ghetto. So I can understand CJs position (at least that aspect of it).

It's unfortunate when things break down over stuff like that. Absalom is impressive in this regard - ASF dorje and them all together in Emeriti despite them being in separate KDs for a long time is indicative of a pretty successful relationship.

Well I debated including that, but it was not really directly part of the CJ-nesta drama beyond that players retired resulting in recruitment of a former jerks player who was running multies, one of which happened to be in a position to cheat his KD into an early war for pyro.

Yeah tetley. You never know recharging of batteries and ability to let go vary from player to player. It sounds like you were like cj, someone who could not let go. Too bad. I had to face my own control freak demons as well so no stone throwing from me.

That's interesting in that I phased through my meta ambitions millennia ago(20 years?).

If you'll note, many who pursue meta don't seem like joyful people with the exception of cJ and a friend of mine lol. Very similar personalities. Mostly it's a matter of satisfaction with ones own accomplishments, not celebratory feelings of victory. Like my old friend, I'll bet cJ really enjoys the victories: the exceptions.

When I play I don't know what the hell I'm doing other than it's 9/10ths worth of success. I still get the results I want if I concentrate. Already knowing other meta players for nearly 40 years of gaming i never had any desire to be a diplo wrestler in Utopia.

Strategically I see the worth of selfless institution: I think this is the common thread we attribute to Abs. On my end I'm happy to give up unity for expression.

Most of the retired tops are on the lighter side of activity. Some of us(non-tops) are built a bit different in that we have high activity for what appears to be no known reason. It's not even social in my case. I like to encounter the meta because I enjoy the challenge vs my slop. It's not to prove anything, it's more I still enjoy seeing the beautiful machine. Call it nostalgia.

Sheister has most of the points correctly stated here, but there's some parts which are wrong.

'Pyro' knew I spawned on the same isle beside them during pre-age freeze and not after the age has officially started. At that point in time, I didnt really bother about setting up a retirement ghetto for the old pyro players. It was only a few days later that I decided to take monarchy and started to recruit about ~8-10 ex-players into the kingdom slowly. It is true that I cant just 'stop' uto

I have heard stories where I made people leave Pyro together with me to form the ghetto. That's not true. It's just when I decided to take up monarchy in a ghetto, these players are used to playing with me and decided to join and chill.

It is true that I had definitely 'poked' nesta during the age when they were doing badly. I'm sure that the ex-players in my ghetto could see how they were struggling with activity issues, But given the fact that I have helped several times during the age (such as even helping to call people during their hostile/war, donating gc, stray hits) etc, I certainly feel there's nothing wrong 'laughing' at nesta for doing badly.

Definitely my ghetto felt wtf when Nesta decided to wave for 'fun' at the end of age after what we/I have done for them during the age. Is it fair for someone to be angry in my spot? I would think so. And it was definitely not for 'fun' or 'nothing mattered'. My version of the story states that Nesta needed something to fill his ego.

Do I give crap to nesta for teasing me about my famous '50/50' comments together with others in forums last age? Nah, I just take it with a pinch of laughter.

Regarding 'stealing players' or 'recruiting' players from 'pyro' at the end of last age / this age. This is total rubbish. I had a player who was tired of being in the kingdom, and was considering to join me. I told him that we're not competitive and he decided to join a top tier warring kingdom in the end. Another player who wanted to find a competitive whoring/warring kingdom to join, and again I told him Sillies isnt the place for that. When I was talking to some of the older pyros still inside during the whole 'waving of 1 week conflict', several stated that they are going to quit at the end of the age and retire, and naturally I asked them to join.

The only person that I recruited was someone who wanted to leave for a long time, and he decided to take up my offer to chillax in my ghetto as he knew like ~8-9 others inside already. (there are currently 7 players from the crown winning age in my kd now, and 3 older pyros)

Did I say I wanted to disband/destroy pyro? I dont think I said that (or else I would just waved them endlessly in Yr 1.5 this age, but instead gave them an eoacf because flogger asked me to let bygones be bygones). I said that I believe pyro will 'disband' at tne end of last age. And to me, 'disband' = unable to compete competitvely anymore. From what I knew, Nesta wasnt actively recruiting anyone the week prior to the end of the age, and it was only during the last 1-2 days of the age where Stoners got deleted that their core merged in.

Regarding this 'IRC hacking' into their channel. I been hearing stories where nesta goes around saying I hacked their channel. Lol. I didnt know IRC is so 'insecure'. Basically, I had CJMobile and CJ IRC nicks. And they are separate nicks. I hadnt logged into CJMobile for some time, and when I realized that I still had access to #pyro.council. I decided to just .sot nesta. I was usually the 1 that does all this clearing/cleaning/giving/checking/removing of access and all for the channels, and nesta doesnt know these stuff. It's not my fault that I still had access to it

I have to tell ya this mess saddens me. I always thought of Nesta and cj as one person. As soon as cj told me he wasn't going to be playing in pyro anymore I first didn't believe him. Then I said to myself pyro is no more. They shouldn't even call themselves pyro and diminish the achievements the accomplished. Now here we are 2 ages later and pyro still sucks with out cj. Just as they would suck without Nesta if he was the one to leave.
