As to "asking for donations". My motivations to maintain and develop munkbot is two-fold -- on the one hand it's a dear project hobby that I've made because it was fun. I expanded the ability for more users to use it, perform support at inconvenient times / fix downtime, upgraded server resources, buy .sms/.call credit and implemented systems to manage all the users. These things costs time and money -- my kid is 1 year old, I have a lot to do at work and it's hard enough to convince my wife to play utopia -- to "sweeten" the deal for this I've implemented the donation system.

I understand that people may find it obnoxious that I often mention donations -- in the end I wouldn't be able to dedicate the time I have without them -- and I expect if I wasn't vocal about it, more people would simply use it without providing any compensation. People on the internet, myself included, often expect things are free -- that just isn't compatible with my personal life.

I understand that externally hosting a server costs money; a pretty loaded LAMP VPS and enough data can become expensive.
Providing support at inconvenient hours? Quit whining, I'm sure you're being bugged with midnight wave-alarms just like any other top kingdom. There's is abolutely no reason to provide instant support during times "normal" people sleep. Just let them send a message and respond later...
Finally the "wife & kid" argument you provide is just silly; if you can only convince your wife to allow you a hobby by showing her you're getting paid for it, there's something seriously wrong in your relationship....just sayin'. I just hope the cash isn't a conscience compensation for time not spent with your child.....

He actually improved the graphics quite a bit so its a lot nicer now!

And about the info again.. its still easier to just take intel yourself then to ask munk to go find it in his bot or how would that even work? If the whole kd had the intel all the time it would get out right away.. He have more to gain on not sharing it since that would come out fast and ruin his donation income etc etc.

The bot is not an online game or a hobby, it is a service. When you put time into providing a service you are entitled to ask for donations. I'd say you knew **** all about his relationship with his wife, and by the sounds of it, you don't understand the dynamic of relationships altogether. You also step way over the line talking about time with his child, which again I assume you know nothing about. Some of the people on this forum are toxic, not in the trolling teenager way, but in the bitter, pathetic and 'past-it' old man kinda way.

FATstrat: I wasn't the one bringing up the arguments, I merely responded to munk's post.

More on topic then: it's a service munk chose to provide and I'm quite sure it's a good service, if not, it wouldn't be used.
I'm on #TeamStinger mainly because my past in PyroManiaCs. It just wasn't safe to use munkbot for top kingdoms due to the risk of munk snooping in the data. I don't claim he ever did it, not that he'd ever would. But the mere fact that he _could_ is reason enough for me not to use munkbot.

Oh, and Stinger now also features Slack integration and a ton of new commands. I really like how Stinger listens to suggestions.

Hardcore old school players use only pencil , piece of paper and their brains. Noobs use munk , warring kingdoms use stinger. I use Netflix and BBC i player , either has ever failed me.

well, after all the responses and dumb posts from both sides. We ended up going with munk... Very noce integration of munk into utopia web site.. and as far as the donations goes.. what he is asking for turns out to be 6 US dollars an age.. which isnt that much fpr.him spending his spare time developing this tool for people to use.... Its like irc and pimp built into the utopia game and very user friendly and phone friendly too...thanks munk!

I dont think that stinger is even accepting new kingdoms so not sure that it was much of a choice. Munk is nice for ghettos who aren't concerned with intel security.
