Let's be honest California shouldn't even be allowed to vote. Let alone carry the most electoral votes. ;)
Too liberal to even tolerate its existence.
It's amazing how little so many people know about the electoral college. Let's start with the basics. You have 2 chambers of Congress. The House of Representatives is selected by population. Each district has the same number of people. The Senate has 2 for each State regardless of size or population. In this way, the Government take into account popular and geographic concerns. To do away with the Senate would be insane. If you don't understand why, you can stop reading now and go read a book or do some research. The President is elected by both methods. It's very simple really. Each State gets as many electoral votes as the have Representatives and Senators. This is actually in the Constitution and will never change. The reason that will never change is that it takes 3/4 of the States to approve a change in the Constitution. Smaller States will never give up that right, so drop it.
One thing that can be done is that States can split their votes as they see fit. Most States do winner take all. That is the problem with the electoral college and it's not a federal problem. If you have a problem with how your State does the electoral votes, you need to get on your State about that.
Look at the election maps. In all but a couple States there are little pockets of blue surrounded by a sea of red. Those little pockets of blue can't survive without that sea of red supporting them. Popular vote would make that sea of red slaves to the little pockets of blue. This was a good ole fashion peasant uprising because the peasants have had enough. Every State and in the House, we've had enough of the elitists telling us everything is OK. Unemployment went from 10% to 5%. Problem is, there are no more people (per capita) working now, than when it was 10%. The reason for that is many people have been out of work for so long, they are no longer considered to be in the work force, so they are not counted as unemployed. Paints a rosy picture of the economy, but it's a lie. It didn't fool the people of PA, OH, MI and WI (rust belt). They know they don't have a job and they know why they don't have a job. The American Government and the People decided they didn't need jobs, so we sent all our money overseas and racked up a $40+ billion/yr trade deficit because who needs manufacturing? Well guess what. They still have the right to vote so they said FU, suck on this.
"That is the problem with the electoral college and it's not a federal problem. If you have a problem with how your State does the electoral votes, you need to get on your State about that. "
This is simply stupid. Take the reasonable assumption that an individual wants their vote to matter as much as possible. If your state choses to split the vote, your vote gets to control one point of the EC, and the rest will be set by the base. If your state pools and votes as a block, your vote is now impacting a minimum of 3 points in the EC. I know I'd like my vote to count 3 times as much as other people's votes... I'm sure you would too. It is dumb, and our system is founded on having the government answer to the people (to prevent very real abuses in other forms of government) - but if you want to give me enough votes to outvote everyone, I'm not turning the job down.
"...little pockets of blue" - no, those are huge pockets of blue, surrounded by mostly empty corn fields. Why does the corn get a vote it this?
"Those little pockets of blue can't survive without that sea of red supporting them."
This makes me angry. You realize it goes the other way, right? Those stupid red states are dragging us down cause they keep taking all the money we pay in taxes. Mississippi usually tops the ranking, taking $3 from the feds for every $1 they put in. That extra money is coming from people like me. Why am I expected to pay for these stupid states that can't get their gov out of it's own *** and actually educate and prepare their workers? Forget the Chinese, the *robots* have taken most of the manufacturing work, and they aren't giving it back no matter how many stupid walls you build. And why should they - they work a whole lot cheaper than these entitled "working man" smucks that are too dumb to do anything better than flip burgers and so arrogant they think I owe it to them.
I worked at my education, I put my time in at the start of my career to show I had the chops. I'm not looking for some handout, this is America here. I've got what it takes, and I'm not even normally that mad at helping out the red states some - it isn't their fault their state governments are so stupid and Republican. (Well, I suppose it is.)
But the sheer hypocrisy to claim that I need *your* support! I do not need anything from you, and would be quite glad to be rid of the freeloading Rs for good! You can't admit that I actually *AM* better than you because you have to be "great" at everything; I'm done pretending I don't know it. Hopefully Trump goes and "fixes" the federal government by getting it out of the way so I can get rich exploiting morons like you.
I'll keep voting in your best interest cause a few of you are actually ok people, but I'm not some saint gonna pass up a good life on account of people too dumb to know the difference anyway.

it's vs. its is ambiguous - from now on I'm attempting to use the proper possessive it's, and the contraction 'tis. (Its will just be the plural.)
Think Different
And people like Ethan are why the Neoliberal Democrats lost this election. You. Just. Can't. Stop.
So the farmers and the miners and the workers in the field are just peasants for you and have little say. YOU"RE the boss. Is that it?
I just want someone, without going on a 52,000 word essay, to explain to me how having a popular vote, one in which everyone's vote carries exactly the same weight, creates a system where anyone is treated unfairly?
Why does where you live dictate that your vote means more? How is a system that fairly rewards the wishes of the majority of voters a thing that's bad?
End of the day it doesn't matter Trump is president. :)
All 50 states are independant entities and like to gain a political advantage over each other, hence the system which is derived from a history of back and forth bargaining. But really the math behind the formula is as confusing as the one for financial deriavatives.
Say what you want about Clinton but as someone who does not live in USA, that a person like Trump can be elected leader of any country is just so absurd. I've met tons of brilliant Americans through utopia and other games, which I respect and admire. With that said, it's beyond me how uneducated and anti-intellectual the average American must be. This retard Trump has been saying nothing but racist and idiotic things for over a year and now he is soon the most powerful man in the western world. Sorkin said it well, hate has been given hope, and abject dumbness has been glamorised as the voice of the outsider who is going to "shake things up". His major election promise is building a wall to seperate the country from Mexico, and he expects the Mexicans to pay for it. Outside of that, he just spouts nonsense that only the most angry uneducated white males would adhere to.
The Republicans really have nothing to offer the world. First you bring us GW Bush jr, which ought to be the biggest political catastrophe in modern times, and now Trump. God knows in what ways you are about to **** up the world in. This is the elite leaders you choose. Americans have every reason to be a proud people, but in this, you really ought to be ashamed. This is an embarrassment

Good read, for both pro-trumpers and anti-trumpers. FYI I'd vote Democrat if I lived in the States.

One thing I love about democrats is when they get mad they destroy there own cities and neighborhoods.
Clinton had so much money during the campaign, but she still lost. I wonder why? :D
