Conservatism is the voice of reason in a culture where people want the democrats to give them free stuff. Curbing federal power is an necessity when 22 million people are employed by the federal government, excluding the military. The fed should be the glue that holds everything together, nothing more.

My god... Learn a little history please. Republicans of that era were about increased federal powers and government while the democrats were for state rights and less federal powers. The roles have been reversed since then. It's not a 'opinion'. It's simply a fact. Lincoln was a liberal social progressive.
Trump is expanding the federal government by employing even more federal agents for the borders, expanding the police force and expanding military spending... and he is no conservative. He was the only republican candidate that wouldn't swear to not run as a 3rd party candidate if he failed to get the nomination.
