At least so far as contemporary Christianity is concerned, I envision a sorely frustrated God:
God ~ "Here are the rules you should live by. Follow them, and everything will be cool."
Of course, it doesn't take long for mankind to totally muck everything up.
God ~ "I see the problem - too many rules. Okay, here's ten - JUST TEN - rules to live by. Forget the rest. Just follow these ten rules and everything will be cool."
Again, mankind starts coming up with their own interpretations and soon everything is a total wash job all over again.
God ~ "FINE!! I'll make it ONE rule - JUST ONE! 'Treat others the way you want to be treated.' Is that asking too much?!? ONE... SIMPLE... RULE!"
Is it any wonder He wrote us off as a lost cause after we managed to flub that one a zillion different ways?
Humans causes suffering, religion or not.Quote:

Nah, he gave us a free mind ergo he knew it would happend, God is all forgiving.Quote:

As far as contemporary christianity is concerned, it is bullocks in my opinion.
Yes Humans do cause suffering, religious or not. I did not say otherwise.
It's not consistent for God to be omniscient and for humans to have free will. Quick little proof:
1. God believes Joe will take a walk at 6:00
2. Joe can either take a walk at 6:00, or not.
3. By not taking a walk, Joe would either prove God wrong by making what God believed to be false, or Joe would change the past and make it that God actually believed that Joe would NOT take a walk at 6:00.
4. Joe does not have the power to prove God wrong nor does Joe have the ability to change the past.
5. By Steps 2, 3, & 4, Joe MUST take a walk at 6:00
There are prolly more formal, thorough proofs, but you get the idea. I still haven't been able to find anything wrong with the proof...
How do you know?
How do I know what?
That it's not consistent for God to be omniscient and for humans to have free will. He impregnated a woman without sex. He raised his son from the dead. How do you know that free will and omniscience can not exist together?
Most people agree that the rules of logic DO apply to god. The above proof is valid. So all else considered, it's not sound to believe all of the following:
1. The rules of logic apply to god.
2. God is omniscient.
3. Humans have free will.
If you want to disprove that Humans have free will and god is omniscient, then you have to not agree with one of those(Rules of logic). I'm very comfortable accepting a wide variety of views on god, but I take a pretty big issue with people taking the stance that the rules of logic don't apply to god. As soon as someone accepts that the rules of logic don't apply to god, then the subject is almost instantly outside of really any and all understanding and interpretation.
what do you call free will?
if palem write a post at 6 PM and with time machine i got back to 5 PM, where i know palem will write a post 6 PM - does it mean palem dont have a free will?
Yeah lets bend the subject to timetravel and parallel dimensions/universes :P
First maybe we should start with a yes-but or not-exactly on quantummechanics and it's implications and go from there.
Haha bet Scorpio had no idea where his toppic could lead to.
That i did not.
The ability to make my own personal choices.
Knowing something will happen has nothing to do with free will. Your traveling back in time has nothing to do with my decision making. In both instances, I wrote the post because it was my choice.Quote:
