Yep, and those people get paid lol
Not really.
I used to do utopia interviews a very long time ago and if I didn't know who someone was I would ask someone about them first. No one paid me.
lol
glw knows who Realest is though...
I have something I'd like to add, I joined the game a few ages ago after a long long time. Back when I played Faires could cast self spells on other players and undead were overpowered, somehow I lost interest because I couldn't play with my friends. I came back because a friend told me about this new feature and it has been great!!!, I love this kind of games and Utopia in particular is one of my favorites.
The thing is I read all these interviews about people that I haven't heard of (most of them). A great deal of them just don't say anything of value, those trying to be funny by being full of themselves talking over and over on how great they are dont acomplish anything, they are a waste of time and actually take my interest on reading the upcoming interviews (Maybe they are not trying to be funny, maybe they actually beleive it, but still, it's a waste of time).
A good way to get new players or maybe guys that don't know is actually get a serious backround on this people so we can know why it is interesting to read the interview about them anyway. Don't take crappy answers from these guys, if they want to be full of themselves just dont publish it, because eventually the only ones reading this are going to be the guys that are always here and I'm sure you make the effort of making interviews and the articles to motivate players into being more involved in the game and the forums.
Just because you know who someone is doesn't mean you have an extensive knowledge of their background.
Realest - absurdly successful monarch. I would think that's about as much as I would expect a random forum goer to know.
I know he must be successful, some people like the interview somehow and it must be because he is good at was he does and its popular around the veterans, still as a "new" player i didn't get anything out of the interview at all!
What would you like to get out of these?
I suppose this interview is what you can expect when a list of questions is emailed and answered. Maybe there should be multiple rounds of questions, because, to me, it seems most questions aren't really answered but merely avoided by answering something "funny". Don't let interviewees get away with empty drivel.
For example
This answer says less than nothing, just using many words to say nothing. So the follow up question could be something along the lines of: Why do you consider failure to be so important to your utopian career? How come that you say you only were successfully three times, yet from reading your posts it seems you're one of the best players, so what's the reason you so often come short?Quote:
What or who has been your biggest influence on your Utopia career?
My single biggest influence in the prime of my career is called Failure. I've bounced more than 1,000 times in my career. I've lost almost all but 3 ages. 14 out of 20 times, I've been trusted to finish above 4,000 acres, and came up short. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
And feel free to just scrap/edit questions that are answered like this
toQuote:
How do you maintain your integrity in the sea of lackluster kingdoms that feel the need to play dirty to win?
I take utopia one day at a time and live by a simple mantra. To those who aren't as good as me, I have this to say: Rise early, work hard... and who knows, one day, you might get as good as me.
There really is no need to burden all us poor readers with this nonsense, it might have been original the first time, but to read about the inflated ego's of each interviewee again and again gets kind of tiresome. If people don't want to give normal answers, just don't publish the interview.Quote:
How do you maintain your integrity in the sea of lackluster kingdoms that feel the need to play dirty to win?
[Realest expresses again how good he is]
i like all these interviews regardless!!! but as an on-off social player i would appreciate a bit of background if possible. I did go and look up Mehul myself - I dont think these interviews are here to please everyone - but I like getting in on a bit of the background and events that I have missed.
Not sure why some peeps wanna go over the top in their responses - keep them coming.
I stopped reading the comments halfway, but I 100% agree with Dharen. The interview questions could have been much better. It's often not a good idea to let yourself be lead by the masses because then you get useless questions like that. Next time I would advise to go for more quality. Realest is an interesting person I'd like to know more of, but the one thing I did know is that he has a big ego. And that's all this interview shows.
What I want to know is why people put my interview in the same "egocentric" category as all of the Dreams players, considering I never once bragged about how amazing I was or anything. The closest I have come to "bragging" was saying that I have been successful. Granted, perhaps I measure success in a different way than some. I do not have any crowns, however it appears that no one in Dreams has won a single crown without other good players around them. I have had successful kingdoms without having any of the "name" players. I have led kingdoms into the top 10, and been part of top 5 kingdoms, without having the support of other top players, or even having a particularly focused kingdom. I'm not the best player in the game, and I will admit that, but I'm one of the good ones and active. And I push my kingdoms, hard, to be the best they can be. I've gotten more out of nothing than most of the "trollfags".
Is getting to 4k acres good?
Why is DHaran so jealous?
Come on news team - enough of this egotistical rubbish. Please try interviewing someone who has something interesting to say about the game
This was pure drivel.
I wouldnt blame goodlilwitch for a lackluster interview, she could ask the best questions in the world, if the person being interviewed doesnt want to give serious answers it will suck regardless. This could have been a really interesting interview imo. Unfortunately it seems people do not wanna divulge too much information for whatever reason
Did anyone actually read this interview with utopia's greatest trollolololol? lol
To an extent, this interview was funny and mildly entertaining... but other than that it provided nothing material and for a player like myself who has never been apart of this "inner circle" of elitists and socialites I fail to learn a thing about Realest.
He is correct in the sense that this community requires more character and more characters and Realest definitely defines the latter. However, as an interviewer, one must approach the inquiry as though he/she either knows everything about the interviewee (as is not the case here) or approach it as though they know nothing at all and seek for answers that validate the claims and rights of such self-proclaimed elitist.
I appreciate the work of the UtoNews team and I hope they can continue to improve and connect the different tiers of this community.
I think it was a poor interview and I will try and be constructive why.
Unlike the godly one which I enjoyed this was stale maybe a few months it would have been funny.
It was uninformative and the questioned just played to his ego. As Dharan said if someone is going to be interviewed get a UT news member to start the thread of questions and if the interview is poor don't be afraid to drop it.
Reword your questions if you need to and because it hasn't been suggested doesn't mean it can't be asked.
An other issue is that most players that want to be interviewed have the biggest egos in the game. It would be nice to hear from some humble people out there. I am sure there must be some players in the SKs that can give a serious interview that gives us some idea how things work up there.
What about people that have played the game for 10 years but stayed in the ghettos.
But thanks for you time GLW and lets hope the next interviews are better.
being a reporter for the daily planet i should have done the interview of the number 1 Utopian villain
I was about to say - if Realest is one of the most successful monarchs of Utopia (a fact I did not know), I'd really like to see this interview redone
I agree with golferviper or whatever his name is ;)
No seriously, that's something you should start with, so we know where the jerk in the interview lives...
OK, to be serious for real (:D) : start the interview by telling us who the person is, everyone might not know, even if you have played the game for a long time, you might not have cared for that long who was at the top. So enlighten us =) and maybe we'll enjoy or understand more of the article.
It's possible to be an egomaniac and amusing at the same time. This, unfortunately failed as did my record streak of disagreeing with DHaran.
You guys are being a lil to critical imo. I believe the interview was good and tells alot more then you give credit for.
Everyone can point out the bad stuff, which yes some play to an egotistical arrogant part of him. But an ego is how many people become good, how they sytrive to be the best. If you think your second rate your gonna be second rate.
The Failure answer is classic, transformed from a Michael Jordan quote, which shows hard work and determination in the face of opposition triumph.
He simply learned the game from trying over and over again. Most know the story of Jordan gettin cut in highschool and really not shining till he reached the Bulls. Anyone wonder why the color came up next red with black, the chicago bulls colors who Michael Jordan played for. The youtube clip should a been that nasty shot against craig ehlo and the cavs though
Also the networking answer, thats the real world applied to a game, its not what ya know but who you know. No matter what you can learn from someone, wether they fail and you learn to not do that or they succeed and then you mimic.
I also believe the offspring question was good, gave some background and kind of placed things in order.
Yeah not all the questions were great or answers for that matter, but i still believe it was informational to a certain extent, and puts a new light on things.
I was Realest once
If your response to criticism as interviewer is "you should have submitted questions", then I'm sorry but what business do you have being an interviewer? You're the one who took the job, so do it properly. If you honestly can't think of proper questions to ask, and apparently either don't have the time, or the skill, then why bother? It's got nothing to do with knowledge of past experiences as Utopian, as an interviewer you're supposed to do research. Have you considered that perhaps the fact that no one, or very few people at any rate, submitted any questions for an interview with Realest, suggests that really, very few people care about an interview with him?
An interview should NEVER, not even in the slightest, be about putting the subject on a pedestal. And at the end of the day that's pretty much what this interview is, as were some of the previous ones with... similar people. You can't act surprised when people call this a ****ty piece of work if you continuously show a lack of willingness to dig a little deeper and come up with questions that utopians might actually be interested in.
And to anyone thinking I should stfu because at least GLW is trying: I'm sorry but if it's between this or nothing, I'd rather have nothing. I call this a waste of forum space.
I have several more responses than just that one that I am keeping to myself. Don't want to add to the mods' work.
No where in my responses have I "acted surprised". I have no doubt that no matter what I do, there will always be someone who's doesn't like it. And so, I take it in and work on improving what I post to make it "worthy of the forum space".
Don't you think, having apparently missed it entirely, you should try reading a bit more before telling me I "continuously show a lack of willingness to dig a little deeper"?
If Godly 1v1'd Realest who would win
Honestly who cares about either Godly or Realest. They didn't have enough class to offer us anything but egotistical tirades.
Che - The reason you were put in the same catagory with the egos was because of your 3rd person responses to everything. To myself and others it appeared as you were trying to put yourself on a pedestal, without offering anything of any value to the interview. Your responses in response to your interview offered far more information of value then the entire interview. It's like your whole interview was focused at trolling the trolls. Like all you cared about was the attention the interview generated... In simple terms, your interview was just as pompous as the one with Realest, except that Realest was just being himself, while you tried to be something you are not.
I appreciate all the love, and I assure you I will continue to do what I do to keep all of you proud
*cough*
tl;dr
not gonna bother reading interviews till its someone without a major ego..its same **** different pile each time..sorry maddy..but gotta expand your horizons in who you pick cuz these are starting to get yawnzeor and old
I don't see big difference from your and Realest answers so its normal both to be in same category. Maybe one from reasons is bad questions. From this interview i cant learn any for Realest so what is point for it?
Che Guevara, what is your problem with Dreams? Are you feel trolled from trolls? None from them act same in irc, include godly. They all are normal people. About: "I do not have any crowns, however it appears that no one in Dreams has won a single crown without other good players around them." I have won n1 prov few times in DARK ghetto. Manage to WON KD NW/LAN in Genesis with ZERO TRADE when all kds trade, and build few success kds...so are you still feel so great?
trolling =/= normal
counterproductive atleast
selfdestruction ftl ...
Super boring interview! Please stop promoting garbage in our throne rooms! At least add an option to disable the spamming...
Disappointing interview. No offence to GLW, but the interview selection has been fairly average, spare a few of them. Seriously can we not interview people who gonna blow their own horn everytime.
We know what realest is like (if you frequent forums regurlarly) so why waste peoples time on bull**** he already spouted 1000 times over. Im sure there are about 100 threads with Realest and his "born leet" crew claiming their crowns and proclaiming they are utopian royaltly.
Ok we get that, they all think their awesome, can we move on from that and interview some people with real merit. Honestly, if the interview selection process doesnt have a big revamp, Im just going to stop reading them. I wont be reading the next interview if it contains anyone of Realests cronies.
I actually thought for a slight second when I saw Realest had been interviewed "I wonder if he wont be a dick and maybe reveal himself instead of his internet psuedo-superhero godlike status he thinks he has".
Disappointing Realest. You could offer so much, but, your just another internet tough guy.
Wow... boring interview... useless and waste of time...
