Wow, new team? Where is Roisin? :o
Finally...
This kind of response is what am waiting for, i knew OMAC were working on this old coding since they take it over but yeah..if we can talk more direct like this in the future on whatever issues about Utopia Classic it would be great !!
That's a step forward, thank you for that. Have you considered scrapping the blog entirely and simply posting it here instead? Also thank you for providing proper information for a change, it's a welcome change. Hope this will be continued.Quote:
FIrst, we’re making some minor blog/info changes. All comments will be turned off here and blog posts will be cross-linked with the forums, as it’s just way easier to reply there.
I appreciate that recoding is your main priority, but are you excluding the possibility of doing minor changes completely for next round? To the tune of simply tweaking numbers of races, personalities or maybe buildings if that's the most that's realistic to do. A dynamic and changing environment has always been the lifeblood of Utopia, best way to keep us happy is to never do a round without changes. Replaying the same round is utterly disappointing for most players, they want a new environment to explore.Quote:
From a gameplay perspective, it will be identical to the current age. If anything, there’ll be fewer graphics :-)
Also, as rosedragon said where is Roisin? Is she still lead developer as stated on the blog? What will Sean and Brian's role be, solely recoding this?
If you don't make any rude changes your recoding will not do you any good.
read also
so ofcource there will be changes when code is up.Quote:
we will be able to respond to issues and develop new features with great agility.
If coding takes time from making new changes for next round I would rather wait weeks for new code t oplay with if we would that way get it faster up.
That is cool theres few nto so needed graph.Quote:

In the other hand i would like to see some graphic , in the Dragons specially since they are one of the interestign feature there and easyly unnoticed. there coudl be one for launching dragon and one for Killing it and those whose online cuold see these pics at the time. anyway, thats beyond future i imagine ;) .
Iam hoping you are including few croslink features in the game, just like what Metatron have done with KD numbers and take few other hints from that FF extencion for the coding.
Thumbs up for Sean & Brian =) .
Blacky, it was not certain from the blog post whether they plan on keeping next round on Legends exactly the same or not. Also, will the code be used on Genesis next round or the round after?
Mourhelm, there would be advantages in having it here. No advantages in having it in a separate location that I can see.
I would have to say that the position of the blog in relations to replies or whatever it really not that important right now. It is purely a cosmetic preference.
However, what I do wish to add is that it is nice to read the post and have the reassurances that I am sure the vast majority have been looking for. So thank you omac for the clarification.
Looks intressting! I wish you both the best and hope we can get some new blood into Utopia :)
1) Your new tactics at finding cheaters makes me worry. Will you be punishing people who logg into account from work and home? If not then cool and more power to you!
2) Is it possible for you to allow us to have a "move code" system in Utopia Kingdoms that is like the one we have in Utopia?
Heh, so its delphi afterall ... i always though mehul was cool and used perl ;)
DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aww I don't mind to voulenteer making this one. *mumbles around dragon dragon dragon*Quote:

I am Glad that you are testing the first playable version of the new coding on Gen.
I am happy that you have given a guesstimate date it will be ready and since its a guess i can live with delays
long live Sean & Brian!!!
I like the thing about no changes to gameplay, however would a revamp of the in-game forum be out of the question, a few more features would add a lot of usefulness.
Thanks for the update fellas, it's good to know what you guys are up to, and I look forward to your 'long-term commitment' :)
This reminds me when they developed "New Coke" and they tried to market regular Coke as Coke Classic... New Coke failed by the way. :P
Though it is nice to get some kind of update.
Thanks for the update from OMAC. Sounds like you guys are right on track with what should be done. VT2 should even be happy that you're looking at ways to prevent cheating :)
Not really an accurate analogy flutterby, this is more like when Coke gets a new bottle, but the taste is the same :)
keep up the great work OMAC!!!!
p.s. make sure to use a valid html and css codeQuote:
We are re-implementing the site in Python with the Django web framework. We’ll be running with the Apache webserver on Linux with MySQL.
i mean if you are going to rebuide the all code do it right ;)
Thanks for the update guys.
My advice is - invest in some flame proof pants :D
Agreed, please make a better forum. The forum here is fine, can we have that in-game please? No post limits, some formatting etc.?
I assume the analogy was UK is New Coke and UC is Coca-Cola Classic.
Lastly, assuming the blog post is fully truthful... yay.
Quick question, how many more people with Irish-sounding names do you have? Do you have a Paddy? If you bring out any more I'll start suspecting you of being Americans pretending to be Irish.
This blog post has nothing to do with UK.
It also has nothing to do with Dr Dre. What's your point?
Doesn't mean that's not what Flutt was saying...
Catwalk, wait will you you always want to know to much to soon. Let them do the coding first then when they are finished and tested THEN let them think about changes.
What you want them to make promises that changes will be made and then they run out of time and it does not happen you will have a cry?
One step at a time, i bet you are the sort of person who wants to open their x-mas presents early?
EXACTLY!
To whomever all said they just can't bear to live without some sort of gameplay changes, geez, is THAT the priority or is making the code stable (and fixing longterm bugs) priority? give it an age to settle in before doing anything drastic. i think we can all live with that for a more improved, faster game.
Thank you, Sean and Brian, for finally giving us some communication about what is happening here.
I'm VERY glad to know that it will be tested in the genesis environment first before going live on WoL. That was one of my main concerns.
umm, Spliff.... did you read the name of this topic? it's about CLASSIC, not KINGDOMS???? *rolls eyes*
I'm unwilling to believe that tossing a few numbers around will present any kind of technical difficulty when rewriting this. The only effort involved (assuming we're talking about small tweaks, which may be all that's realistic to do once again) is in finding out what to change. As such, it makes sense to start looking at that now rather than 3 days before eoa as has happened two rounds in a row now. I'd rather not see that happening again. And no, I don't see OMAC as Santa Claus handing out presents. They've invited our feedback on the game's development and I'm offering some. Doing no changes at all next round would be a mistake, and I don't think that's what they're planning. I would just like confirmation.
@Brian and Sean,
I do have a very big question. Whats going to happen with Angel and Pimp and the front end of Utopia?
Currently Pimp and Angel both rely on formatted Text and if you change the codebase, does that also mean you will change the formatting of the frontward text?
As players, we use these tools extensively and I would like to be able to still use them as a part of them game.
As the Developer of the NEW Utopia Pimp [1], I would like to be invited on the inside along with Brother Green (Creator of Angel) and the creator of Megatron. So that we can test our items against the new working Utopia.
I would rather we not shut everyone out why we update regular expressions to match your front text formats.
[1] Pimp is getting/has a new code base. The Old Pimp man (Mike) has moved on to bigger and better and has left me to control his app along with creating a new codebase.

It's not their job to ensure third-party applications or software are compatible. Formatting has changed many times before in the past and I doubt it's that hard to modify either Angel or Pimp so accept minor changes in the formatting of particular pages. Perhaps you can get a sample of each page so you can see how it will look and work from that.
They did start up that EUT program, but sounds like they've forgotten about it again. And what happened to Roisin, is she still involved? She's listed as Lead developer on the blog.
So when you say "no changes to the game mechanics"... that doesn't really mean "NO" changes, does it? While you're mucking around in there, can you replace the random number generator with something that isn't so streaky?
Think Different
I honestly doubt very much that the random number generator used is anything but random.
A direct reply from those that have taken the helm. This makes me happy. Feedback helps a lot. However, as stated by CW early on in the thread, round tweaks and changes are the lifeblood of Utopia. Another round identical to the last is not a wise decision in my own opinion. i'll just leave it at that. Like I said earlier, I'm glad to see feedback that should lead to progress.
Sean and Brian ftw.
Nothing at all, but I don't need to know anything about coding to realize that they need to add utopiapimp and metatron features into utopia. Because I am really tired of posting those province codes, explaining how to join, why should they use it and so on... Anyone who is not using 3rd party tools is making his life hard in Utopia.
Wouldn't Utopia benefit from in-game chat too?
That's what I mean by "rude changes".
