It's very viable, but you need to provide a good reason for why you're not tagging dark elf with warrior or mystic, since you're actually going for A/M.
Just remember that chocolate elf gets owned at higher acres, because lack of turtling hurts more the bigger you are.

Warrior is not an option because I'm not all that active. RL gets higher priority and returning armies often wait for me to send them back. Mystic has only the MS bonus - which I don't want cause NM(thus the associated mana consumption) is the primary reason to choose DE in the first place - and if I can(which I think I could) make WPA without the bonus then Mystic loses it's value altogether.
So Merchant became the next best thing...

Same build as all other A/M's, really - with the obvious exception of towers.
Use the saved space to run more of the buildings you'll actually use; hospitals, training grounds, and so on.
If you're not planning to hit more than every 12th hour in war, you'll have even more land to play with.

If you want to be able to help your kingdom, don't go T/M. Also, meteors aren't the end-all, be-all spell, either.
Switch to A/T with your elf instead. You'll have more fun, you'll be useful, and you get a break from the usual spamming of magic.

I use...
Notepad.
And the window's calculator.
Pimp makes finding, storing, and accessing information a lot smoother, so it's recommended for everyone.
Angel takes more presses to calculate stuff than the window's calculator, or my phone, and has ads, so I see no need for it.
Any random instant messenger, that at least half your kingdom feels like using, is also recommended, but not necessary.
