Yes that is the problem with chat. If the "game + chat" would be able to do what "game + IRC" does, nobody would need IRC.

(I think we can assume that people use IRC because they need to to organise better than what the game offers.)

But the chat isnt meant for those that is already organised its a tool for the ghettos to get more organised. Stop thinking about yourself and your friends and think about it in a more broad view of it all.

actually the problem with irc is that there are already several private irc servers that are used. To hook into utonet they need permission from the utonet owners, they also need a statement of work from what are volunteer irc staffers around coverage, uptime + admin work etc- thats not really something that is feasible. The alternative is their own irc server, but people wont leave utonet for it so there doesnt seem much point in that either.

Quicker updating for messages, different colors, some sort of alert for new messages, and a way to keep the chat over the page or something. You can resize the little window but once you click to a new page the chat closes so it would be nice if it stayed open with each page. Or put in a little chat box at the bottom corner or something. Putting it in a new window by itself is great but without the refresh or alert it's frustrating. But that part might be because technology and I aren't besties :P

Not thinking about myself, LOL, I am thinking about those who would want to be able to organise better. Because IDEALLY everybody should have best tools available, ghettos and top kd's aside.

I said that IDEALLY, "game+chat" should incorporate what "game+IRC" does at the moment, so everybody has access to same tools. Now, if that, for you, looks like thinking of myself and my friends, please reconsider your thoughts because it is exactely the opposite. "Me and my friends" have the best IRC bot around, which most probably is used by you too.

Bottom line: We don't NEED "game+chat" feature, but if I lobby for implementing that, means that I think about helping others to improve, not myself.

But ghettos problem isnt that they dont have warbots and such things, their problem is that they arent organised enough. Ideally it would be neat if everyone could utilise everything but the current situation isnt like that.

Now, if that, for you, looks like thinking of myself and my friends, please reconsider your thoughts because it is exactely the opposite.
It looks to me that you want ghettos that have a bunch of useless things that they have no need for really cause they cant utilise them.

"Me and my friends" have the best IRC bot around, which most probably is used by you too.
Somehow I doubt that you have the best irc bot around. Its pretty silly to say consider there is probably alot of private ones that isnt spread outside of the kd. I dont use any bot atm since im in a ghetto and i dont have any need for any bot.

but if I lobby for implementing that, means that I think about helping others to improve
As mentioned before, ghettos need alot of more of different things before they need fancy things like warbots..

    KD chat..
Its a good idea. Bad implementation.

The chat is like a forum thread only worse, cause its not with the forums and you cant see what date things were posted on. No idea who's chatting at any given time.

Supposing its not meant for people who already use IRC and war bots, its just one more place for people to have to click to see whats going on. And when they do click it, they cant tell if it was from yesterday or last month. If they were organized enough to all be online at once to chat, they will miss the ability to use IRC tools (ie bots, seeing who's online, how long away). If they are not organized enough to be online all at once, then the chat is less useful than a forum thread.

All it has done for my KD so far is cause me extra time spent explaining why it cant replace IRC.

This. It's kinda got a 'tavern' feel to it.

The "this" that has a tavern feel to it, is that the chat feature or this particular thread?

I agree with most suggestions on Page 1 but what I *really* want added is a Date.

[14:01] k> hows it going guys?
    [19:48] S> going ok ,

For all I know on sunday K said how is it going and on tuesday S responded. It needs to be clear if I'm responding on a 2 days old message or a recent one.

More to the point - A UTOPIAN date. It makes more sense to see [Jan 3rd Yr 3] as a timestamp, while it may be more approximate (I can't really think of a reason why you would need to know the minute) it's the game time and has more relevance.

I do not think this is true... I'm sure if we had our own private IRC Utopians would switch to using it.
