There are simple a few things that cannot be overcome yet can only be obtained over a long time:

1. WPA
2. Science
3. Size (both in absolute numbers and the time you have to pump on it --> see 1/2)

A KD that gets to pump their banks for free for most of the age simply cannot lose to those that are warring unless they make serious mistakes.

There is no competition in the top to use as a leverage atm.
As long as top dog keeps prolonging CF's 4-5weeks at a time and refusing prep time necesary to even come close to their level there is zero chance anyone can get in position to challenge them.
Ours and everyones else choice is to either farm out unprepared and undertrained or to pay the tax and increase the gap even further. Loose-loose situation.

I asked if it has always been like this, if you have some useful info I'd start by using my "real name". First you claim to be from my KD then you fanboy over Emeriti, what's next? I'm sure Emeriti are a good KD but the way things are now if you get a head start you can just pump your early age setup to the point where nobody else stands a chance, not if everyone else is out to get your competition, it's all about the social landscape pretty much.

The only current solution would be to stop with just 1v1 conflicts and allow anyone to hit into any stance. for instance, FS couldve warred Emeriti but us and pyro would be hitting into the war and hostile as well, thereby leveling the playing field again.

So long people defend 1v1 conflict and respect stances, the game will be about taxes.

For comparison, think about how you play Risk, and what happens to those controlling Asia.

If people like the ones controlling Asia or if they don't like the ones that don't they can just cause problems for them and leave the ones holding Asia alone. This game never was about 1v1 imo.

The game has been this way the last few ages because one kingdom gets a dominant lead in the first weeks. Since it is impossible to beat a competent kingdom that's larger than you, the smaller kingdom has the choice to give free acres for a ceasefire in the hope of getting the opportunity to catch up later, or fighting and basically being knocked out.

War mechanics have a lot to do with it. Bottomfeeding is a ton stronger than topfeeding due to the asymmetric gains curve.

The inequal starts of the past few ages are just random. It's not like we did anything special this age; I just put together what seemed like the obvious best OOP build. CR and Pyro stalling each other because CR insisted on a more-than-min-time war helped. We've probably been more careful and aggressive in our ceasefires and deals than we would have been in the past, but that's based on having gotten burned by most of the fair ceasefires we've made over the past few ages.

But the biggest influence on this age was the large race changes. Certain races turn out to be dominant, and nobody (except ASF apparently) really knew which those would be until a few weeks into the age.

I've considered what would happen if you played the game without ceasefires/deals of any sort. My main conclusion is that you'd probably get gb'd for it.

My KD got taxed by Greeks and Emeriti coming out of war, we will probably be taxing CR when they come out of their war, woo Utopia.

I do hope you're not suggesting we ban Trad marchers from the game. But if you are I would think the 'Strategy Talk" forum would be a more adequate place for this thread.

As said l2p :( You dont screw everyone else over, you would screw some or one person and in either case you would benenfit someone.
