Raze is one reason...oh, I have time.
Self spells are good defense.

Look at the unchained in my kingdom.
Build strat agility and low cost.

Wouldn't you just trad in war anyway?
That's a low blow editing it afterwards! :D
I don't think low costs are important in this meta, you don't even have to pay for science.
Dwarf/Heretic.
1. High turtle-defense due to high def on elite and +1 def on def spec. Had we run avian or UD banks Panda's top would've been able to break most likely.
2. CS + WTs, especially if OOR is so potent.
3. MA + Heretic --> high resistance to MS.
4. Free rebuild has two advantages. Firstly, OOR razes in war don't do much. Secondly, it gives huge flexibility OOW to plan explores. This has allowed us to get our banks way bigger faster than the rest of the server even though we got blocked twice.
1. Avian has greater protection though, kind of mitigates that, too lazy to do the math. I have a feeling the reduced attack times give an edge here...
2. Yes, definitively looks good, GA WTs shouldn't be too strong either because of the easy rebuild (although most of the stealth would get burned on the same tick anyway against anyone decent), problem I have here is I don't think thieves are that strong this age to need extra protection against.
3. Don't know, guess so.
4. What you call blocking is actually what allowed you to set up these banks imo, warring these days is so good, no science build up time lost and you get to shift acres onto big provs then whore the smaller ones post war.
Is it really that bad? I figured you're still fine if you keep your land and shift it around like that.
Like so many things, it depends. If you effectively add land over the whore cap, and don't net-lose acres, well...you've lost a good amount of time, which sets you back, but if you have deals to get back into it, it may work out ok especially since you don't need to worry about science.
Cow choices are tricky this age. The issue is that usually you want a cow to be capable of holding land. While avian (and orc/undead) are great at gaining land, they don't really have many advantages when it comes to holding it, and none of them have real econ advantages. Avian has attack speed, which is good for those turtle fights, it they can't turtle effectively, and BR which is good oop.
Dwarf/human have the econ potential, but human's miiltary is worse. Dwarves military isn't great either, and their NW efficiency is a minus for them (a -2 ppa orc on 7k is in nw range to hit a -4 ppa dwarf on 10k iirc). Human has the -15% wpa, which really hurts in cow fights where 1-way MS can often decide them. Dwarves build speed and build cost advantages are serious when you get big -- in a cow fight in the past we've wound up with both sides on 30%+ unbuilt because there's no gc to get it built.
I'm not sure heretic is the right choice either -- if I was going to run a heretic cow, I'd probably look elf first, because they're the best turtles and can make the most use of the WPA advantage + some use of the TPA offensively. Tact is a common choice for CS, but you're right that rogues in particular aren't strong this age, which makes WTs better (and dwarf already has CS). Cleric could be good if you were setting up to do bouncewaves and expceting them back. Warrior could be good for the military strength. Shrug, I didn't think about it too much since we aren't playing.
Of course if your CFs are poorly set up you will just get vultured oow that's a given.
Yeah we have clerics and warriors, I think the LS decided to explore the clerics the most, figured against bouncing etc.
I don't trust Heretic too much because I don't trust science bonuses with these whacky science numbers...
Elf can bounced this age, think they've lost defensive losses bonus.
Heretic was really just for the 100 starting wizards .-.
The only reason kingdoms are running these UD/AV/OR banks is because flogger said it was a good idea and there wasn't anyone around who was willing to tell him he was wrong. Then it became a trend. The risk of core hits from static def is a ridiculous thing to choose to expose yourself to. You can't just take his ideas straight to the bank; they need to be filtered.
Any of hu/elf/fae/dorf he/my would had been fine! Spartans has become an engine of compromise with absence of Bartholomew. :(
What do you mean? What sort of compromise?
Compromised decisions! Without the nazi around to just do what he wants to do, everyones' wants just kind of get frankensteined together. The resulting monster is exactly what no one person wanted.
"Beautiful [kingdoms] are more than scientific. They are true organisms, spiritually conceived; works of art, [making the best decisions] by inspiration rather than the idiosyncrasies of mere taste or any averaging by the committee mind." -Frank L. Wright
Are you not there to reign them in octo?
I generally decide stuff based on heavenly revelation and sudden insights. I generally listened to advice then came up with how we were gonna do it (end of discussion). Since I cannot be as active as I used to be I had to outsource decision-making + too tired to continuously discuss stuff, so we settle for some compromise. Once I got a job (and married), I should have more time and mental energy to allocate to Sparta again!
Hmmm, I hope you bounce back quickly!
I'm no leader. Just a humble soothsayer.
Can we actually get a conflict update? Not even BoH can save this forum mess.
Uhh, yeah. Sparta's big dwarves did some razes on our big attackers, but have now moved on to trad marching our big attackers. As of yet, they haven't really had much of an effect on the conflict, which is exactly why we left them alone in the hostile. After just 1 wave, there's no attacker in Sparta in range of our upper core anymore, so 42's biggest attackers have started massacring all of Spartans' T/Ms. We've massacred half of their T/Ms now. Meanwhile our lower core is getting pounded by their whole core... Chain targets bounce back very quickly, but have very little defense on them, so they're easily dropped again.
42 is funneling a little land onto our top attackers, and then Sparta is funneling that land onto their 2 big dwarves.

The point you're missing is that being retalled or risking a retal are 2 different things. If you hit someone who can hit you back, you risk a retal. If you hit someone who can retal your KD mate, you risk a retal.
If you don't get that by now, you'll never enter that next level.
Unwhorable acres are worth more than whoreable acres.
You've only just done your first steps of whoring. You've still got lots to learn, young padawan.
Why is there no difference? You're just salty you've achieved nothing more than him. You haven't lead a kingdom to a crown and neither has he.
Keeping Simians alive for as long as it did is probably an achievement in itself though.
Pretty much everyone with a bit of spare time can handle some day to day stuff or lead a wave though. Strategy is not meant for everyone.
Not quite relevant to this matter, is it?
Jees, someone is jealous out here!

My GF understands I got a KD to run, and she'd rather do the laundry than run it for me. Gotta share the load!
You can join my ghetto Anri. We had a vote and decided to choose the name Pandas as it was vacated by you guys. I can offer you a position in our TM-guild. You can be "Master of Mages".
Or just Monkey King.
I don't think anyone else applied.
