Greed does not affect income but upkeep. Merchant does not give any protection from Greed. I think it does protect against the (income penalty aspect of) Plague, Riots, Dragons and housing shortage Riots
This is my province. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My province is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My province, without me, is useless. Without my province, I am useless.
I must attack hard with my province. I must attack harder than my enemy who is trying to pk me. I must pk him before he pk's me. I will...
Anything that messes with your daily income (not expenses), merchant blocks.

Greatest strategy thread/question of all-time.
so i remember seeing a sage with plague but he was just 'carrying it' ie not affected by it.
are you saying if a merchant got plague he would be affected by all aspects but the income penalty? i did not know this was a possibility, i thought it was 'all or nothing' protection
well if merchant had protection against plague as a result of the income thing it would be a bit OP. :-P merchant can still be rioted though. you will lose honor but the income will stay the same thankfully

What? Riots is an income penalty so you won't feel the effect. It's like when you cast Storms on a province who has Nature's Blessing up. So they can't get rioted for the income penalty.
Riots --> Decreases targets income by 20%.
Merchant ---> Immunity to all Income Penalties (Riots, Plagues, etc.)
Greed affects Merchants as a wage penalty, not an income penalty.

T/Ms apparently = black sheep of Utopia.
Yes, Merchant protects against the income penalty of plague, but none of the other effects. It's always been like this, as has Greed affecting merchants.
If it's not a direct penalty to income, merchant doesn't protect against it. It does exactly what it says it does.
