    How to caculate science?

I am new and just wondering how science is calculated? Like how much does 295881 pints into population does that add to my population?

** Effects Summary (Known Science Only) **
    20% Income (300,977 points)
    20.3% Building Effectiveness (612,794 points)
    9.2% Population Limits (295,881 points)
    59.5% Food Production (81,920 points)
8.9% Gains in Combat (60,399 points)
    41.8% Thievery Effectiveness (71,980 points)
45.5% Magic Effectiveness & Rune Production (85,274 points)

** Science Points in Progress **
    Alchemy: 1,167 points in progress
    Tools: 1,583 points in progress
    Housing: 50,969 points in progress
    Food: 1,167 points in progress
    Military: 1,167 points in progress
    Crime: 1,167 points in progress
    Channeling: 117 points in progress

it's based off the formula sqrt(books/acres)* modifier * race bonus * libs

    modifiers are here:

so if that is correct your telling me for population it would be: 1.3 for human * .65 * 144 = 121.68 to population? that would be about 2500 acres! So that means we are adding only 121.68 to population!

It is sqrt( books/acre ). Presumably that 144 you put in is just books/acre so you need to square root that to give 12 which gives a bonus of more like 10.1%

I'm intrigued to know though, if you are new, how did you manage to get so many science points before you decided to find out how they actually convert into the science bonus?!

Thanks for the help.. And i was a human so i just put a lot into science! So if i have 10% into libs that gives me a 17.98% effect into science. so u would take 17.98% *10.1% to give you a total bonus?

I've just finished pumping my sciences because I was getting bored and the age will end soon so I want to grow which will, sadly, see my sciences plummet again anyway!

so did i do that right with the libs then.. which would be a total of 181.60% bonus?

No...10% in libs gives 17.98% extra to science (assuming you have that bit correct) which is a 1.1798 multiplicative factor.

    Hence you get 10.1% -> 11.92% (10.1 * 1.1798)

I think this is correct anyway. I was about to build libraries, but when I calculated their effects they seemed very poor value. In real terms those 10% libraries are giving you just 1.192 / 1.101 = 1.016 bonus to population - i.e. an extra 1.6% to your population than if you didn't have libraries. Sure they also boost your other science bonuses too, but I'm not convinced they are worth the land.

Thanks for the help but how did u get 1.1789 wouldn't it be (10.1*.1798) where did u get the 1 from?

someone once made some stupid calculation, that total books/acre / 100 = % of libs you should run (so, 500 bpa = 5%, 800 bpa = 8% etc)

i dont think libs are really worth it until you are getting over 1200-1300 books/acre, and you would want a decent amount of those in pop =)

That is how a percentage works as a multiplicative factor. What you are really getting is 117.98% of your base science. So divide that by 100 to give the multiplicative factor and you get 1.1798.

Same way as if you had a 50% bonus to something that gives you 150% total which equates to 1.5 times what you started with.

Yeah, I was tempted to put all that kind of stuff into my spreadsheet and see what it came out with a while back, but I couldn't be bothered to work out exactly how to formulise it so I just decided I would evaluate libraries in a rather more approximate qualitative way for the overall effect on my province!
