i have always heard homes were for noobs who didn't know what they were doing, despite this i still don't have any :-)
i shall follow this thread with interest.
PS Palem you get bonus points from me if you can work Elves into the conversation :-)
Homes are an economy building. People who try to run them in war find that they are fail and decide that the building itself is fail, but it's not.
Halfers have a weak army and it's pretty necessary for them to run homes to put up appropriate numbers.
Faeries on the other hand (at least from my understanding) run homes for another reason, namely to help their econ out a bit. They can run homes through war since their prov should be mostly static. Idk, maybe my reasoning is just off, but it seems like they've got room to run them and they need to do something to try and fight off that awful pop penalty...
unless you're pumping I don't really see any reason to be running homes as an elf...
I like homes :)
30% homes, 30% library 20% banks 8% farms, another 2% homes and another 10% on library. :O
I don't see any reason not to run homes on a faery.

I'ma nub ... I run homes on Faery, Elves, etc until my econ is good and i have decent alchemy/pop sci ... *shrugs*
as an attacker i run homes until i get econ science up. in my experience 15% homes ~ 10% alchemy, 5% tools, 5% housing. once i get that science i dump homes and go with more war buildings.
on static provinces...you shouldnt count on that but a good faery should be able to do it most of the time. makes sense to use it to get more numbers and a higher BE for a better ToK with high banks.

okay okay
let me get this right
have a building strat that includes homes, farms, banks, guilds, towers, and schools at the beginning of the age (as well as thieves guilds, armouries, barracks etc depending if attacker, theif or mage or mixture.
after reaching a significent level of scientific research THEN build libraries to maximise scientific benefits. keep shools as well or convert all schools to libraries?
have a draft rate of about 55-65%.
??? is that how it is done, i am restarting a new province in about two days and i want this one not to c@#$p itself and die as the last one did, although that truly was a team (Kingdom effort) YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!! EAST SIDE YO!!!
Scorpio, are you still talking about faery? Or are you restarting as an elf? These are two different races, with different sets of benifits that help determine the type of build strat and specialty you use. Either way, don't use schools unless you are pumping(i.e. oow in normal or agressive stance). The money it saves is only worth it at high science pump levels. At least with faery, switching builds between wars and pumping stages should be easy, as you have ToG(and especially if you have rogue,, easy robbing money). The same is true of armories. Unless you have a whole bunch of cash on hand and am preparing to elite pump, they are not worth it. IMO they are normally not worth it with faery in general oop. Barracks are also useless with faery, as you should be keeping your guys home(except for rare occassions in war, but even these are so few that rax are ineffecient)
Libraries effectiveness is contingent on amount of science you are running, so as the age progresses they become more valuable. I have heard on these forums a fairly large amount of bpa(books per acre) before switching to libraries, but I believe that as a faery(especially faery/rogue) it is worth bringing libraries up before the 1k. This is because the amount of multipliers associated with faery/rogue is incredibly large(this is also one good reason why the peasents from homes are perhaps more worthwhile with them?). And, because just as people have been saying about homes, you will have amble room for them.
But again, its all about what you are, and what you need to be for your KD. If you are a t/m faery, then you just have the space for things like homes or libraries in war, because theres only so much room before your towers, td, guilds, and forts become less worthwhile.
He's restarting as Dwarf/Shepherd.
...
But anyway, I think of homes as my personal mansions. I like to keep the original 40 and that's it. (Except if I'm a Faery... or Human... or Elf... in which case I like to have homes in my build.)
