    No, you wouldn't.

Again, just because the NRA and Fox news shove something down your throat, that doesn't mean there's a hint of truth to it.

If Clinton had won the presidency, there would still be a Republican House and Senate. Ignoring the fact that a supreme Court Justice is unlikely to blatantly ignore the bill of rights, a nominee that would be in favor of a national ban on guns wouldn't get approved in the first place.

A collection of separate individual states with their own congress and sets of laws joined together with the presumption of representation granted to their state.
America is what's referred to as a 'Federal' state. State governments are empowered to deal with regional concerns; the Federal government is empowered to deal with issues of national interest. There are vastly different political cultures from place to place, but the actual *interests* of people, so far as the Federal government goes, don't vary so much around the country. It's not like Alaskans are sitting up there protesting because they want higher inflation and negative economic growth.

Besides, Ohio has its own 11+ million people to speak for it. California is a larger voting block, but even if they all voted the same way (hint: they don't), that wouldn't be enough to control the election.

Moreover, if state-wide margins mattered, then 'stronghold' would lose its meaning. As it stands, Republicans don't even try to win CA or New York, and Democrats don't try to win votes in the bible belt - and this cements the polarization of America, because it totally undermines the notion of governing 'for all Americans' when you regard entire states as 'the other party's' constituency, and we've seen a lot of divisive rhetoric in recent years in particular to exacerbate the rural/urban divide.

I think the point I was trying to make was that the electoral college is weighted to reflect the individual state populations which is fair, otherwise we could do 1 electoral vote per state, then the popular votes going towards those specific electoral votes carry a weight by extension depending on the population they're representing and number of voters that showed up. SO in essence people are pooling popular votes with different weights together, if that makes sense.

There are national interests that affect specific states, so it's easy to say we the people if you're not in the region being affected, like the keystone pipeline. Obama has blocked legislation on that project from moving forward, but trump has stated he will push to get the keystone built. immigration is another point, may not see many mexicans or muzzies in Alaska, but the border states are significantly more impacted.

This would be true if all states did like Maine and split the elector votes according to the election result. But alas it is not. If all states did that the situation would be better but still silly, the way it is now with winner takes it all is absolutely retarded.

Aye that's true, not everything affects everybody the same.

System will never change first off. Plus nobody wants California having any more say in who is president then they have now. Hope fully when California goes bankrupt they will be forced to change policy's and not be bailed out.

Well even if the College of Electors is kept the states should be forced to distribute electors according to the election result, not Winner takes it all. Because that's the true abomination with the system.
If that was changed then even if the voting power disparity between the states would be kept and the votes required to win would change from a theoretical 22% of the population so something a lot closer to 51% even if not quite 51%, which is at least 1 step closer to becoming an actual democracy(and a republic is a subset of democracy, so no pulling that card).

And the mentality of "the system will never change" is just not working, that's the mentality that got the US where it's currently at. If enough people demand a change then there will be change.
If the part of the population in every state that voted for the party that won the election but not the popular vote(and this remains true even if/when the situation would flip) started rioting and forexample started burning public, state, federal buildings, and buildings of the controlling party(because the controlling party in a state is essentially a part of the government and therefore not sacrosanct) then there would eventually be change, even in the states whose influence is hurt by changing the system.
Note: Any would be rioters should definitely stay away from destroying private property, as that has nothing to do with the conflict.

Funnest thing is Democrats complaining about Trumps cabinet. Why would Trump do or care about anything Democrats want? Like Obama said two weeks after he was elected. The people have spoken, now sit down and shut up. :) I so enjoy the tears. Fyi haha
