Lore wise it makes sense that you still remember what you learned a year ago.
If i learn to ride a bike, then learn to drive a car, then i don't need to relearn bike skills when going back to a bike.

It could be a penalty for Undead personality. Rotten brain and all that, what you don't use, you forget. :-)
