That's easy to say now, isn't it? Didn't you have an agreement that prevented you from exploring them? And if you did you could be noticed? There was a strong possibility you would have doubled up sooner or later (by that time there was quite a bit of info on explore cost already). Prior to the fight with sword though, you had little choice but to explore your pool on faeries as your humans would never be safe against the core from sword.
