In an earlier era, I remember the "dwarf bug" where dwarves were supposed to get -30% TPA but instead had some ludicrous bug giving them something like +1000% offensive tpa. This bug too was disbelieved (and actively argued against by players who were dwarf and didn't want it to be fixed) for several ages before finally getting fixed one day (just in time to get us a war win versus brute).
