I've gotten comfortable being a lurker. Doubt I'd join another thread at the moment, but I did think on making random posts in that "The Scribblings" thread. Putting words to paper is my albatross though, so who knows when/if that'd ever happen.

    phoenix -

Cutting room floor idea: Yeah, I tried that. Jolt beat me out, but I did have a good amount of people and threads for a little while. URP was getting outdated on the old forum. barely moving. though more than now, I suppose.

It's definitely an idea I wouldn't mind pursuing again, though I wouldn't want to be the only one to take on the task like last time. i did all the forum work and made a few people rogue mods in case I wasn't around and someone spammed the boards. Aside from that... I was it.

But yes. I would like to eventually move these boards away from Jolt and the uncertainty of it all. I was hoping that after yesterday's downtime I wouldn't come home from work today and find it all gone, actually. Thankfully, it's still here. But I don't think for long.

SoHee - take your time, time hasn't moved much.

all - Anyone seen Geco? Haven't seen him online or on the boards in days.

I don't see how anything here is unappealing if you're interested in a fantasy setting. These threads can be anything you want them to be. Geco's thread, for instance, is by his own words completely open to our influence. His only request was that we keep his master plot in mind when developing our own. So far, he's given us a overall idea of why we are where we are, but the island we're stranded on, the names of the places we're created and even the design of the airship itself was completely open-ended.

While I think there should a tad bit more structure (*cough cough*) the idea of a moldable world is that it can be whatever you want. If you want a thread about massive battles or politics or whatever else, I can assure you - with the proper thought applied to your posts - it has room in this thread. Just because the main story is about Gabriel's Solomon's quest to find Shandalaar(sp?) that doesn't mean we can't have other things outside of that scope going on. After all, it would be a sadly short story if we got off the island and landed in Shandalaar the next day.

I think we, as writers and storytellers, have a responsibility to make our characters interesting and make them fit in the story. This goes for everyone. You can't rely on the others to make a world for you. We are busy with our own goals for the story (at least me and Phoenix are). That's not to say we aren't willing to be part of what you have planned, but we won't necessarily create the ideal environment for you or not attempt to incorporate our own plans into yours. That's why communication is so vital out of character via PM, e-mail or whatever else. Integration and adaptation over imposition and seclusion. Trust me, if you master the ability to insert your story elements into the main arch and allow them to work with the efforts of the others, threads like this stand a very good chance of not only lasting longer than a month, but staying interesting and keeping a good mix of drama, action, and in some cases mystery.

I'm very pleased with what I've seen from [/i]Skysail[/i] so far. As an editor, I can see things other people may not and how they can relate to other goings-on in the story. Everyone made a character with a detailed history and goals for the future. Looking at my character - and doing a bit of critical thinking - I can place Cyradis in just about any situation and still think of a way her personality and history can influence how she reacts and thinks under said situation. That alone shows me room enough for a seperate thread for each character. Knowing that, there should never be a period when this thread looses the ability to accept new elements.

With a single post, I can change the face of Skysail entirely, much like I did with its prequel, Endless Skies. In that case, I'm afraid I exerted too much control and caused the master story to be overwritten, and it was because while writing about Zayna and Reteban I forgot about Shari and therefore how she was affecting Geco's plot.

The point I'm trying to make (in far too many words) is that anyone here is capable, from what I've seen, to make influences on a story without overshadowing the main plot while leading events away from it. I can elaborate with examples if anyone is curious as to how I could introduce a brand new character that had no place in the thread, but for the sake of this post being huge, I'll cut it off here.\

If anyone wants a, example, consult or help working out a entrance or integrating something into the story, I'll answer any PMs here usually the same day they are sent.

not to pick Shari, but I notice that you miss the use of "an" a lot.
... So far, he's given us a overall idea of why we are where we are, but the island...
feel free to pick on me sometime too. ^_^ I always want to fix my recurring grammatical errata.

and that whole side story is exactly why i left endless skies.

that and while i endure a little of a premature character and plot development (and dabble in it myself) for the sake of pushing a story along and keeping its interest (after all, it could be a week and only a couple posts are put up), often times, fellow writers here, including myself, take it way too prematurely and there is nothing else left to do but end the thread. not that the story has finished, but they hit the middle-limbo. the area that it is too soon to finish, but too close to the beginning to give anything away.

I hate that point. It means that structure is severely lacking.
    -------

I wish you were around for Freedom and Fate, Shari. You would have loved it. :) This style is where Geco got it, I think.

Geco, Arkady, and myself were the main pushers of the thread. Another guy name Archmage came and tried to hijack the thread. When that didn't work, he left, and when he did it stopped. He had so many characters, like everyone in the thread, that it died. It was a massive, but wonderful, undertaking.

I really wish it could have come to completion.

    --------

One more thing, let's not complicate the story with anymore characters or groups. Three groups with a few characters and its own story each is enough.

However, I think you should send a flare for help to the ship or something. *nod* 3 vs 2-dozen is not really... eh. fun to read? sort of envokes the feeling of "please... Really?"

if you want an idea of things I have planned, cause I do have a couple ideas of something that I ran past Geco for Cyradis, let me know. he said he felt it was generally where he was going to take it. so. I'll ask you if that's where YOU want to take it. :)

    yeah. :)

Well to be honest the overall idea of the threads have no appealed to me. I'm fickle on what I like, and if it doesn't interest me to begin with then being moldable (which I lurve) no longer matters, you know?

I dunno as far as fantasy, I'm kinda iffy. Sci-fi an alternate modern/post-modern are my faves usually

Speaking to productivity, it's a utter waste of time. But I do read some stuff on occasion. Gets the mind going, and keeps up my hope that I'll actually join/stick with a thread past the character sheet. x_x

I think we all hope that about you fiz. :)

Geco, the 5am you get used to. the 5 pm just drags you down.

phoenix - indeed. :) invent an escape route (you're hours ahead of my group so far). You can even use my initial native squad leader if you wish. Although, I would prefer it if you do this after the discussion with grandfather pu'aki, or whatever it was I had down.

@fiz still don't see the point of lurking........it just seems boring. Unless you do some writing else where?

You know, it's funny you should quote that, Ren, because I specifically remember changing that to 'an' before I hit submit... and I don't really mess up the use of 'a' and 'an' much at all. Normally, I'll mispell their as thier because it's a stupid word that doesn't follow normal grammar syntax - like 40% of the rest of the english language.

Also, Phoenix and I are significantly ahead of Geco and yourself (almost half a day). We're trying to pace ourselves and allow some of our characters' inner working to shine through. That and Vagrant is having some time issues and it would be unfair to leave him without a chance for at least a little input while we are ahead.
